We traveled long, contemplative roads to get to the beautiful Sierra Mixe and source traditional pottery from the region. We saw pieces from the same makers being well used, tasted food from them and admired how graceful they looked after years of being exposed to open flame from cooking.

Each piece is a result of hours in the mountains mining clay, meticulously processing it to remove impurities, turning it to workable clay, creating the form, carefully drying it then firing it in raging fire to mature stare.

Care

• Hand wash and air dry only. We don’t advise using a microwave or submerging the piece in cold water when warm. It is normal for clay to sweat at the beginning, if this happens, cure the piece by submerging it for 24 hours in saltwater. Avoid leaving the piece in water for more than three days, it could soften and break.

Please note:

• With use and time, the piece will develop a beautiful patina which is part of the beauty of an open flame fired pottery.
