The Mayolica ceramic is a type of glazed pottery that has been produced since the 16th century in Guatemala, specially in Antigua Guatemala, San Miguel Totonicapán and in Guatemala City. The pieces available here are from Tononicapán. The yellow color glaze is obtained from antimony, the green color, from copper oxide, and the black from iron oxide.

While the design is prominent in Guatemala, according to our source, they are no longer being produced, at least at a great amount. The pieces we carry are vintage and considered rare.
